Principally, for PwPs who were diagnosed in the last one to three years.
For the Newly Diagnosed, we have a group of mentors attend the meetings to lend their experiences to the discussions and to make sure the newly diagnosed know that they are not alone with their struggles with PD. For many, it is overwhelming to come to grips with what their life will be like living with Parkinson’s. This group brings them up to speed with good counsel and hope. For those PwPs with Young Onset Parkinson’s, its extremely discomforting to know that they will be living a long time, many of them through the prime of their lives, with PD. These PwPs must deal with a different struggle, especially if they lead active lives. They need the mental strength to go on with their lives the best they can. Many of the young onset PwPs become role models for the rest of us, because they quickly learn that exercise can dramatically help to keep the symptoms at bay, which makes them advocates for an active life at any age.
