Hi Everyone,

NEWLY DIAGNOSED SUPPORT GROUP
We hope you enjoyed our last Newly Diagnosed support group presentation by Sue Santana and Veronique Frey, Occupational Therapists at JFK University Medical Center. They gave an excellent overview of Occupational Therapy (OT) as it relates to Parkinson’s disease. Attached Is a copy of their slides which provides great resources.

It was suggested that we as them to return with a presentation geared specifically toward Care Partners and how they factor into the care provided to PwPs, what they should know about OT and what to be aware of as your loved ones advance into later stages of PD. Sue and Veronique have agreed to retool their presentation and will be ready to present possibly in December. Keep your eyes out for an upcoming PD BULLETIN for this announcement and invitation.

CARE PARTNER & DBS SUPPORT GROUP
JFK University Medical Center – Thursday, October 26th at 5 pm (via ZOOM)

You may recall a few months ago that during our DBS Experts review, we heard from a well-informed care partner, Dr. Lisanne Hauck whose husband, Keith had undergone DBS surgery by Dr. Fedor Panov at Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC. Nancy Hooper and I were struck by the similarities in the symptoms that Keith and I possessed prior to his surgery, so we went to see Dr. Panov for a third opinion on my qualifications for DBS. It turns out that, while neither of us demonstrated any significant tremor, there was one factor that disqualified me and not him. Can you guess what it was??

Lisanne takes on the role of Care partner quite seriously. She maintains an active awareness of Keith’s condition and symptoms and is there for him when it comes time to make any serious decisions regarding his care, so we thought of Lisanne as an excellent candidate for a role model candidate for our support group.

Nancy Hooper will be facilitating this session. If you have questions, Nancy may be reached by text at 646 531-0654.
